mini art post~

May 1, 2009

Ummmmmm

Just a teaser of some of things i’m putting in my school’s spring art show on May 14th

Every year the seniors get to have a big display of everything they’ve done at school. I’m so excited :D

I really need to write my statement for my concentration soon but… it basically has to do with japanese street fashion/culture + the cute/dark idea that influences it (not all of it of course!)

and I made a lot of cooridnates >3<;;;///

But yeah, I have about 40+ things going in my display so expect lots of pics!

KRAZY + Sakurai Matsuri

March 9, 2009

I’m not sure, but I heard there was some possible discussion for meet up goodness in the upcoming months?

Here’s (some) cool shit going down in the city this spring if you guys want to take the trek up north.

KRAZY! The Delirious World of Anime + Manga + Video Games
March 14th – June 14th, Japan Society NYC

It’s an exhibit one anime/manga/gaming culture from japan, featuring screenings & other cool stuff, worth a look at during a nice day trip I’d think. Exhibit space is being designed by Altelier Bow Wow, some pix of their work on other exhibits to be seen below:

Sakurai Matsuri
May 2 & 3 @ Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

DC has their sakura festival, & so does nyc. Pretty flowers + right next to the Brooklyn Museum of Art & some DELICIOUS food spots make it a trip worth taking. NTM the festival aspect.

Of course other good stuff like shopping joints, food joints, comic book shops, book off! and a number of other badass museums to check out (& perhaps concertz).

Thought I’d share in case the meeting wanted to you know… NYC! cus uh, yeah. Also wanted to show off the inflatable snoopy house. Badassery!

パラパラ!!

March 7, 2009

Do you still remember the dance I taught you guys at MICA??

Anyway I decided to post some official parapara videos. This is stuff is OLD SCHOOL but sometimes it’s the best :’D cheesy corny music and clothes but pure gold!

Actually I want to either find or post routines from ParaPara Paradise cuz I think they’re the best but these are pretty good too

These are form youtube and the user that posted them posted a lot more but I just put the ones I thought were good or fun to watch up :) Also, all of them I believe are reversed so if you want to learn any of them, you can copy exactly what they’re doing (they should be using their right arms first or you can tell the title is backwards hehe)

Enjoy!

 AND NOW

We zap into the present and I will show you Techpara! Different from regular ParaPara in that it’s not danced to eurobeat but instead Hyper Techno, which is just really fast and crazy. So the routines are fast and the arm movements are much more complicated. But having Gyaru-o dance to these is really cool!!! I uploaded the first 3 myself. The one last one is freakin’ awesome (Ryuichi is pretty amazing)

*These videos aren’t reversed

Spreading Awareness

March 5, 2009

Okay guys, I know this blog is for our funtime posts and art/fashion/what have you but I thought it was a good idea to bring this up. We can get back to our regularly scheduled programming later.

Last fall, my head of school received a letter detailing aspects of a former artist in resident’s personal life. Although it was his policy not to share personal information with the communities he visited, he thought it was important to let us know that his partner had been attacked and hospitalized. Thankfully, the injuries weren’t serious but this didn’t detract from the fact that a hate crime had been committed against someone affiliated with our school community.

This is the reasoning behind our spring theater production, The Laramie Project by the Tectonic Theater Project. If you aren’t familiar with the play, it documents responses to Matthew Shepard’s murder in 1998, when he was tortured and tied to a tree where he was eventually found in a coma.

Lately, there has been news of this flier circulating the school:

The Westborough Baptist Church will be picketing outside our school this spring, serving as a precise reminder as to why our GSA efforts to spread awareness and  The Laramie Project are necesarry.

The good news is that, because our school is located on private property, the picketers won’t be allowed on the school grounds. However, because of some loophole, there is nothing lawfully restricting them from purchasing tickets to the show.

Guys, I didn’t mean to write an essay but I wanted to know what you thought about this? These things still happen even if we aren’t directly affected by them. (I don’t know what kind of experiences you guys have had, do tell?) Maybe it’s just one particularly hateful group, but if one exists the hate is still there. Trying to make sure this sort of potent, hateful thing doesn’t happen to anyone is something super important to me. Sorry if I killed the blog mood. :(

OKAY!! Now it’s my turn!

I decided to be an OUTDOOR OTAKU~~!! Always ready to explore! I thought it’d be fun since that never happens with the stereotype.. I also fell out of a tree and started bleeding, so I think that the situation was appropriate, since I think explorer Otakus would fail hard out there in backyards.
